The Mary Gene hotel has been a historical landmark and hub of activity in the Grand Central District since it was built in the golden years of Florida’s “boom” period in the 1920s. Although it has gone through its good and bad times but now is being reborn by the proven hotel group that revitalized the Hollander Hotel and xx Hotel.

The first phase has been completed with the hugely successful opening of Sophia’s – an Italian inspired Italian Bistro that has again brought the M J hotel as a center of neighborhood activity. Plans call for a cocktail lounge, revitalized rooms and an outdoor pool modeled after the popular weekend hangout at the Hollander Hotel.

The proven success of the developer with similar projects and the growing attention from investors, developers and builders to the unique qualities of Grand Central are all laying the foundation for Grand Central emergence of the coolest neighborhood in St Pete.
